ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
The figure resonates our connection to one another as human beings. Using this connection as a base subject matter for my work I introduce a raw, expressive aesthetic to delve into the continuous narrative of living. There is so much more to this immense narrative than just the initial relationship of artist to artwork which is why the use re-appropriated surfaces within my drawings are crucial in exploring what can be expressed past the influence of my own hand. Finding surfaces from construction sites to highway on-ramps, they carry previous stories and add a depth of personality  gained through the clash of their past and now present lives, much like the figures drawn onto the ground itself. This binding concept of subject matter and the surface it resides on is visually connected by my fascination of excavation both physical and emotional, delving into unseen parts of something otherwise hidden.
“Oh, it makes a difference, I thought. And if it doesn't make a difference you will make it make a difference.”
